What is Pasta?

Pasta is an umbrella term that covers many types of noodles from Italy, or made in an Italian style. They are made from a dough of wheat flour and water and formed into many shapes, each with a different name. For example, spaghetti is long, thin and round, while farfalle looks like a bowtie and linguine is long, flat and narrow. There are numerous types of pasta and each pasta is cream colored and hard until cooked. Once cooked it is soft and easy to chew with a mild and nutty flavor that pairs well with tomato sauce, pestos and cheese sauces, such as Alfredo.

salt

Salt is a mineral composed mostly of sodium chloride. It is the main flavoring used in food and is naturally occurring in certain foods, such as cheese, beets, meat and celery, plus many others. Salt is white and has finer granules than sugar. Many commercial salts include iodide, while others exclude it. Most salts are white, while some are naturally pale pink with minerals. Salt brings out the flavor of something and can create a tangy mouthfeel, if used in excess.
